Presentation Skills

The convincing people lead the world. With the power of their words they influence other people and make success.

Last night I watch the Barak Obama's speech at the end of the Democratic Party convention. It is amazing his presence at the stage, how natural he is directing his message to the people. We can see that he delivers his message in a relaxed way, in a good tone of voice, firm, clear and effective.

I am not judging the content of his speech, but I believe that it will be very difficult for his oponent to overcome the tremendous capacity that Obama has presented during his campaign till now.

I am fascinated by good comunicators. And since I started my professional life I discover that the people occupying the leadership positions had good presentation skills. And I discover also, that we can develop this capacity, with some technical abilities that we can learn from the masters.

In Brazil we can find one of the best communications expert, with many years of experience, called Reinaldo Polito, author of many books that deserve to be read by all those who desire to develop this important ability. Reading his books we can discover that the great communicators use these tips, because the majority of them certainly are not gifted with inborn skills in this field. And I can assure you that they study at first the great communicators, read expert books and practice a lot to finally appear in public causing amazing impressions.

And I know that this is one of the main characteristics of great businessmen and leaders, that need to be pursued as a key to success. I dare to say that is the main characterisc of a leader.

Look for the Steve Jobs presentations. Search in the Internet for his speeches and see how natural he is, presenting his products. In one of those sites I found an expert analisys of Steve Jobs way of doing. I read that he rehearse many and many times before he goes to the stage. That's one secret of the best communicators. Repeat, repeat and repeat, till everything appears to be natural and fluent.

I want to defy you to become a big communicator. Read a Polito's book. Learn the basics. Use them in your day by day communication. Take every opportunity to speak in public. Never miss an opportunity to talk. Volunteer to present a group conclusion in a business meeting, trainning or convention. The more you try, the more you improve.

I want you having success! And your success pass through this ability improvement. Pursue this goal and you'll shine like a star!
